Role of the Ministry

The Ministry of Internal Security is the central authority of the HirShabelle State of Somalia charged with the responsibilities devising and administering security and border controlling policy of the State. Moreover, the key role of the Ministry lies with the more reasonable security; police and CID services, Intelligence and rehabilitation, Prevention and countering of Violence extremism, registering and weapon control of the state and connecting the police and the community through community policing.

Mandate
The Ministry of Internal Security of HirShabelle State of Somalia, in pursuit of its mission, has a wide mandate with responsibility for:

  • Recruiting State police
  • Weapon registrations
  • Civil protection and human rights monitoring
  • Regulate, license and supervise the operation of private security firms in Hirshabelle;
  • Ensure and monitor special security affairs including intelligence in Collaboration with NISA
  • Ensure arms control programmes in close collaboration with other ministries and community development measures.
